With an insatiable appetite for writing, this scholar turned children’s book author, began her career publishing innumerous written works, including books, articles and reviews in both academic journals and newspapers.

Continuing on her professional journey, Coonoor discovered her passion for creating engaging, highly visual bilingual books in Hindi and English raising her two daughters abroad in a foreign culture. Publishing her first set of books in 2006 in Singapore, Coonoor has since created multiple animated works, exploring innovative book shapes and various formats.

With her bilingual books, she hopes to help children aged 2 to 6 learn new concepts, build their vocabulary and develop their knowledge through fun and lively storytelling that tickles their funny bones and creates memories they carry into adulthood.

Coonoor’s early works cover basics such as numbers, colours, shapes and the Hindi alphabet. Her more recent works are inspired by life’s everyday adventures and her travels with her husband into the far corners of the world, such as the jungles of India and the Arctic.

In most of her stories, the colourful butterfly Titli accompanies children to discover the world around them and learn about nature and conservation – a topic close to Coonoor’s heart. Through the use of illustration, vibrant colours, as well as giving a voice to animals and ways to express their feelings, such topics are introduced in a playful, fun way that is positive and accessible, thus eliciting empathy and creating a connection.

Coonoor loves to experiment. Being a highly visual person, Coonoor has worked with multiple artists and photographers at different stages of their careers. She loves seeing her characters coming to life through animation and different publishing formats. With a penchant for innovation and a curiosity for technology, Coonoor’s books are published in various digital formats, including interactive apps and audio e-books available on the App Store, iBooks and the Google Play Store.

In addition to writing children’s books in English and Hindi, Coonoor continues to write scholarly works. Currently, she is working on a piece analysing the role of radio broadcasting in India.
